Interview with Peter & Sons, Barbarossa Dragon Empire and the Evolution of the Franchise

Interview with Peter & Sons

What inspired the creation of Barbarossa Dragon Empire slot, and why did the team choose an Eastern Asian theme for the next chapter of the series?

Barbarossa has always been a character big enough to travel between worlds, and for the third chapter we wanted to push that idea visually and narratively. The team had been exploring Eastern Asian folklore, color language, and symbolism for a while, and it organically became the perfect contrast to our fiery pirate universe. Dragons, mysticism, volcanic landscapes — it all gave us the opportunity to expand Barbarossa’s legend into a new cultural space without losing the pulse of the saga.

In what ways does the third installment differ conceptually from the previous Barbarossa games?

The first two titles are rooted in classic pirate energy - grit, steel, open seas.

Dragon Empire shifts the lens: it’s still Barbarossa, but seen through a mythic, almost ceremonial world. We built a narrative where the stakes feel bigger, the environment feels alive, every element cascades, and the fireball mechanic contributes to the sense that you’re trespassing into an ancient empire.

It’s Barbarossa, evolved and reimagined.

Which visual design element became central in creating the atmosphere of this Eastern adventure?

Light and motion. Our genius art team used that Eastern interplay of fire, shadow, lacquered textures, and gold detailing to create a world that feels both sacred and dangerous. The volcanic reds, the dragon-scale patterns, the dynamic glow behind the multipliers — that visual rhythm became the backbone of the atmosphere and reinforces the feel of a slot built around layered slots with bonus features rather than surface-level effects.

Which regulated markets do you see as the key focus areas for this launch?

Our growth across regulated markets this past year has been incredible, and it’s been amazing to see how players in those regions are just as captivated by the Barbarossa universe as the early adopters were.

For Dragon Empire, our strongest focus sits with key EU markets, Ontario, and Brazil — territories where the franchise already shows exceptional traction and where partners are actively expanding their premium portfolios in licensed online casinos.

It’s a release built for regions that value strong retention, recognizable IP, and a polished, regulation-ready experience.

Can Barbarossa Dragon Empire be considered a milestone in the evolution of the franchise? Are there plans for future installments?

Absolutely - this is the turning point of the trilogy.

Dragon Empire is the moment where the series grows from a fan-favorite into a universe with real depth and lore. It raises the bar for whatever comes next, and yes - we see a future for Barbarossa. The character is too rich, too adaptable, and too beloved for this to be the final chapter. We won’t spoil anything, but the door is more than open.
